The Longest Scarf

A small group of knitters meet each week at In Stitches, the wool and haberdashery shop in Colville Road. Chatting about the festival and how it would be good to be involved there was a suggestion that we try and do something to support the event. As watching knitting isn’t that entertaining the next idea was to knit something – something huge that everyone could be involved in and then it happened – the world’s longest scarf was suggested. The group started knitting a few squares and then word started to get around and a few squares turned into 50 then 100 and now...well we’re not sure but we are still knitting and Sue is kindly storing the beast and our wool in her lovely shop.

Whilst we still want to break a record (waiting to hear from Guinness World Records to find out whether we can enter) it’s secondary to the fun we are having and we have great plans for the squares after the festival when we will be dismantling the scarf and making blankets which will be used by charities supporting people in need in many parts of the world.

If you would like to get involved here’s what you can do:

· Knit us a square in double knit yarn – roughly 30 stitches and 60 rows

· Give us your unwanted wool

· Offer to sew some blankets after the festival

· If you can’t knit you could sponsor someone to do it for you

· If you can’t knit but want to learn let us know – we might be able to teach you

If you need any more information please get in touch by email or pop in to In Stitches and pick up some more details.
